The power of insight to progress and deliver DoingOurBit
DoingOurBit was created as a result of passion, desire, collaboration and insight.
Insight is crucial to a concept landing well with its target audience. And it’s vital to continue gaining insight as things progress, to ensure things remain relevant and add value.
Insight can be gleaned from all manner of places, including user and non-user insight, consumer panels and feedback from friends and colleagues. We draw on a range of feedback from DoingOurBit users and contributors to the platform. Their voices and views help us to shape the offer, attract partners and gain recognition from the operators within the wider leisure industry. Here a few examples of how this works in practice to keep us on our toes and aligned with the wider wellness agenda.
Supporting summer sport legacy
Following a busy summer of sport, new research* from the Vitality American Express® Credit Card shows that on average Brits are planning to spend £795* to keep motivated on their health and fitness journeys for the rest of 2024. For the average adult, this includes £17.50 a month on gym memberships, £15.30 on sportswear and £9.70 on fitness apps and subscriptions to stay on top of their fitness goals by the end of the year.
This gives a clear indication that people value their activity and that it can be quite a drain on resources.
- DoingOurBit is free to the end user – those fantastic people that work within the NHS and Social care – removing any cost barrier to being active.
What’s the real value on a ‘Membership’?
ukactive consumer polling in June 2024 asked how differently people felt that had a membership versus those that did not.
30% of those polled that were not already a member said that ‘Physical activity is crucial in maintaining my overall health.’
For those that are members, this number lifted to 45% demonstrating that being a member of a facility/club/activity space increases the view that moving more benefits their health.
- As well as offering an online community and sense of belonging, DoingOurBit has now created links to fitness facilities that allows NHS and Social Care colleagues to take part in classes across the country.
Preferred ways to be more active
Here at Active Insight, we regularly collect insight and feedback from Leisure Centres across the country about how people like to keep active. The insight below is taken from the South East and shows that 86% of the demographic asked said they wanted to be more active and cited how they’d like to do this.
Swimming, strength training, cardio and group classes all score highly.
- DoingOurBit assists NHS and Social Care workers to prioritise moving more in all these areas by offering online cardio and strength workouts.
- By working with fitness facilities, we will soon be able to offer swimming sessions and places in group exercise classes.
